About Quentin Geczy

Quentin Geczy is based in London. He began his educational journey at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, before moving on to the University of Sydney Medical School, where he spent two years. He plans to continue his medical studies closer to home in Europe. Alongside his medical career, he is pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors in consulting and finance, particularly focusing on healthcare.

Quentin has remained actively involved in health and education throughout his medical school application process. He runs a successful private education business, where he helps students in STEM subjects and provides guidance through the university admissions process. He is also working on an online platform that offers educational courses and materials to prepare students for UK high school exams (GCSEs, A-Levels), medical exams (BMAT, UCAT, GAMSAT, MCAT), and the SAT.

Academic Background

After completing his high school education in Australia, he moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue his interests in science and economics. At Yale University, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Cellular Development Biology (MCDB) and Economics. In Economics, he studied macro and microeconomics, finance, and accounting. He also gained valuable experience in data analysis, working with large datasets using R and applying theoretical models to solve complex qualitative and quantitative problems. This has sharpened his ability to think critically about complex systems and better understand the underlying mechanics of resource management, decision-making, and human behavior.

His studies in MCDB expanded upon his pre-med coursework and led to the completion of a thesis titled “Psychedelic Renaissance in Psychiatry.” This research examined the action of the 5-HT2A receptor and how its interaction with serotonergic psychedelics can stimulate neuroplasticity. The findings are helping to shape new approaches in the treatment of mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD.

Quentin’s multidisciplinary education in Economics and MCDB has given him a unique skill set. It has given him the tools to approach complex challenges in healthcare from multiple perspectives, combining evidence-based reasoning with analytical rigor. His diverse academic background has also strengthened his ability to communicate complex concepts effectively.

In addition to his academic achievements, Quentin excelled as a Division I Varsity Athlete, earning recognition as the Lightweight Crew Eastern Sprints Champion. He also placed second at the USA U23 Lightweight Men’s Quad National Team Selection Regatta. These accomplishments reflect his ability to balance a demanding academic schedule with the intense training required for elite athletic competition. It also taught him valuable discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership lessons.

His Pursuit of Medicine

Quentin Geczy’s interest in medicine began when he was thirteen years old. After suffering a fractured femur in a cycling accident, he required extensive rehabilitation, which gave him firsthand insight into the impact of orthopedic care on a patient’s recovery. Over the years, he faced additional health challenges, including a serious cycling crash that led to a subdural hematoma, cervical spine fractures, and significant dental trauma. While these injuries ultimately ended his athletic career, they strengthened his admiration for the human body and the medical professionals who guided his recovery.

After graduating from Yale, Quentin attended the University of Sydney Medical School, a highly regarded medical school worldwide. His clinical interests include orthopedic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, and general surgery, which are influenced by his academic studies and personal health challenges.

During his two years in Sydney, Quentin completed all required coursework and wrote an MD thesis on “Demographic and Clinical Features of Patients Diagnosed with Achalasia.” His clinical rotations at Royal North Shore Hospital exposed him to a wide range of specialties in both hospital and community settings. One was his Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine rotation, which gave him valuable experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry, inpatient mental health care, and addiction treatment. His critical care training included emergency medicine, anesthetics, trauma response, and intensive care. He also gained experience in pulmonology, urology, neurosurgery, and general surgery. His general practice rotation involved patient history-taking, physical exams, and assisting with day-to-day clinical duties. Furthermore, his allied health rotations allowed him to work alongside pharmacy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, podiatry, psychology, and acupuncture professionals.

Quentin also contributed to the research as a volunteer at Sydney Musculoskeletal Health, co-authoring two articles: “What is the most effective and safest Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for treating osteoarthritis in patients with comorbidities?” and “Appraisal of quality and analysis of the similarities and differences between osteoarthritis Clinical Practice Guideline recommendations: A systematic review.”

Earlier in his clinical training, Quentin gained experience at the private clinic of Dr. Keith Bush in London, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the Diakonissenkrankenhaus in Germany. These experiences further developed his clinical knowledge and skills.
